My Story

Hi! My name is Jacqueline and I love to pot. Telemark Studio is a project of love. Initially, the studio was created so I could spend more time with my mum. She is a lifelong ceramicist and I wanted to work by her side and learn from her. The studio has turned into a gift in my life. I am inspired, meditative and full of joy in my tiny space. And I want to share some of this joy and peace with you. I hope you follow along, and if you feel the love, you may bring a piece of my art into your home.

Why the name Telemark Studio? Telemark is a region in Norway from which my great grandfather, Halvor, emigrated to Canada. Specifically, from Seljord. Growing up, my grandparents always kept their Scandinavian culture present in their, and our, lives. My grandfather built a cabin (hytte) in Alberta that he named Telemark after a region close to his heart. Telemark remains in our hearts to this day. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Seljord with my family and even though I wasn’t raised there, it always feels like home.

Why the Dala horse? Horses in Sweden are symbols of strength and courage, carved by workers in the forests in the Dalarna region, and treasured as toys by children. Growing up, my father was deeply connected to horses. When he could no longer keep them, he collected and displayed porcelain Beswick horses. His collection is something I proudly display in my own home.

Who is Bo? This guy is my studio dog. My steady. My accomplice. He naps, snacks and loves his studio time. His name is Bo. Like the name Bø close to Telemark, Norway. Bø means to stay or live in Norwegian. My Bo is my steady companion in my studio life.
